Years with vCommission

Niharika Chhabra

Head - Advertiser Growth

Introduction Hi, I'm Niharika Chhabra. I joined vCommission in February 2016 and worked here for three and a half years. Then, after working with Admitad for a couple of years, I rejoined vCommission as Advertiser Growth Head for India.
If you could invite any three fictional characters/ celebrities, or public figures for dinner, who would they be? I'd start with Elon Musk. There are so many conspiracy theories about him; people say he's a robot or part of the Illuminati, so I'd love to get his take on innovation. Next, I'd invite Ranveer Singh because he's a huge gossip monger, and I'm all in for that. And lastly, I'd invite Narendra Modi. He's such a strong global leader, and his journey from being a chaiwala to a successful global figure fascinates me.
What's a fun fact about you that would surprise everyone? Well, only my close-knit group knows this, but I'm really good at mimicry! I can make people laugh a lot and serve as a stress-buster for my friends and colleagues. So yes, I'm quite the mimic!
If you could eat one dish forever, what would it be? Parathas, forever! They go with everything- chai, pickle, any sabzi. Plus, there's so much variety. You can have aloo paratha, gobi paratha, or even methi paratha. It's just the perfect dish for any occasion!

Life at vCommission

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?

I'm really happy with my current role as it challenges me while still allowing me to maintain work-life balance, especially as a new mom. Right now, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I find fulfillment in what I’m doing, and it keeps me motivated every day to prove myself and work with the team through all challenges.

If you had a chance to rename any department or designation you've worked with, what would it be?

Affiliate marketing is a term we've used for years, but given how fast our industry evolves, I'd rename it "performance partnerships" to better reflect the strategic, results-driven approach we now focus on.

At Work

How have your perceptions of your industry, your role, and your team changed over time?

When I actually joined affiliate marketing, I thought it was more transactional. A client pays us money, and then we pay affiliates to run campaigns. However, over time, I realized that it's much more than just a transactional thing. It's about sustaining relationships and maintaining trust. Your face value works in the industry.

Looking back at your journey, how would you describe your experience in the affiliate marketing world so far?

I would not answer that in a very lengthy manner. I think my journey has been challenging yet very rewarding.

If you could go back to your early days in this field, what advice would you give to your younger self?

I wasn't very young when I joined digital marketing and affiliate marketing. But one piece of advice I would give to younger people entering affiliate marketing is that this is a very dynamic and fast-moving industry. You need to be prepared for changes, embrace them, and learn from your failures because failure is a stepping stone to success.

Getting Personal

If your professional journey were a movie, what would be the title?

It would definitely be about a new mom trying to juggle her role as a mother, wife, and professional. That suits me perfectly right now because I've recently become a new mom, and I'm balancing a lot of things. So, I'd say the title would be "I Don't Know How She Does It."
